Blog birthday Q&A

Kezla's First Post.
Kezla’s First Post.

My first post on this blog was the one you see above, 3 quick tips for what is probably my favourite game of all time, Fallout New vegas.

So, a lot of you had awesome questions, thus, I have decided to break them down into weekly posts, rather than a very long essay. The first question came from Jon over at The Fun Turret which is a rather good read, so you should go have a look too.

Q. What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in gaming in that time- one good, one bad?

In the past 3 years the biggest change for me, that’s been awesome is the rise of independent gaming journalism. The YouTube review channels, the blogs and gaming forums. These are the first places I go for news, reviews and first impression of games that I’m thinking of buying, and I love that. These writes, videographers and posters are gamers themselves, and have an enthusiasm and passion for it. Yes you have to be careful of those who are paid or sponsered to say good things, but I find that if I do my research, that’s not difficult to avoid.

Something that I’m not so keen on is the elitism and segregation that can occur within the gaming community. I hear people chortle when I say I chose to purchase a Wii U over an Xbox one or PS4. I sense some judgement when I say I have been spending my time playing Guildwars 2 and Hearthstone instead of the lastest releases or Call of Duty or Assassins Creed, and that’s just me. I suppose there will always be cliques and groups within communities, but arguing about the best system, and ridiculing people for their gaming tastes seems like a waste of time and type…I especially see this in younger generations, and it saddens me slightly.

Let me know your thoughts on this question in the comments section, and I’ll return to answer another next week 🙂
