My birthday is obviously one of my favourite times of year, this year was no exception. Firstly, my Nan knitted me a manatee. Manatees are my favourite animals, and I have never seen a knitted one before, this is definitely a special gift!
Then after much research finding discount codes, I was lucky enough to secure a Lowery stand from my boyfriend. I will feature this in a seperate blog post in future, but for now, to anyone thinking of taking the plunge, I would say go for it. (But research some discount codes for SewandSo or another online retailer first!)
My brother took me on an adventure to the “Above and Beyond” exhibition at the National Maritime Museum. It features exhibits on the latest developments in aerospace and space travel research, flying cars, reusable space rockets and elevators into space!
Whilst there I treated myself to a book that covered these wonderful aspects of Science and Engineering in more detail, and a Nebula bookmark 🙂
This is a Final Fantasy VII pattern by Cloudsfactory, stitched with DMC threads on 14 count aida. I like Cloudsfactory designs for their simplicity, and have only put this down due to starting the piece below.
This is the piece that has been receiving all my attention of late, it’s The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery‘s, Story Time Sampler. I am super behind in terms of deadlines, as this is a stitch along with another small section being released every month, but when you stitch for only a couple of hours a week, what are you going to do? These borders are driving me crazy, they take so long, but I adore the finished product and just keep that in mind when I put the aida down to make my 5th cup of tea that day! (This is stitched on a piece of 16 count aida from Chromatic Alchemy)
This is The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery‘s Cherry Blossom sampler, stitched on 14 count aida with DMC threads, although i did swap around the colours, so that there is less red, and more purple!
This is a Lord of the Rings pattern available via the Jodyri Designs Facebook group, stitched on 14 count aida in Ashardalon Breathes by Chromatic Alchemy fabrics…I adore her fabrics, so they come highly recommended. The thread is DMC perle in 310.
This is unfortunately how far I have got on New Year Fairy by Mirabilia, it is stitched on 32 count linen, and it’s just too much of a struggle for me that I really lack the motivation to stitch on it, I’m considering changing fabrics as the threads for this are Crescent Colours and I really love the finished piece.
I had wanted one for many years but have only done the research over the past year. Fast forward to more recently and Hobbycraft emailed me a hefty discount voucher (Probably because I haven’t bought anything from them in so long due to their dwindling cross stitch supplies section – but lets not get into that here) and I finally took the plunge!
It’s a Janome 4400 and it’s going to take me quite some time to master, so any tips or website links to helpful tutorials would be greatly appreciated.
If there’s one community that makes me feel welcome on both YouTube and Facebook, it’s cross stitchers (Known on YouTube collectively as Flosstube) I regularly watch videos and have picked up countless tips and added many patterns to my wishlists as a result of watching other stitchers’ progress on them. This year I wanted to challenge my crafty side and try stiching on a different fabric and try my hand at beadwork, thus, I joined a SAL (stitch a long) I post progress pictures on my Instagram page located here. The materials are motivation enough…
The rules of this stitch a long were that it must be a pattern by Mirabilia (or Mirabilia designer Nora Corbett) and you must start on January 1st 2015. I saw this as a great opportunity the try linen and beading. Here is New Year Fairy whom I have chosen to stitch.
I feel a little like I have jumped in at the deep end. However, very slowly but surely I am making progress.
I aim to keep updates posted here monthly, so that I can look back and remind myself of my progress when my eyes get tired from the fabric count and I’m a tangled mess of beads and thread. Are you trying anything new in 2015? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
